Early warning for potato blight
Early warning BLIGHT alert system. The Potato Council have produced an active map of outbreaks of potato blight. Potato scouts across the country notify the Potato Council of the postcode where blight is identified and this is indicated on an active map of the UK. You can also chose a map of your area. DAMAGEPOLICE patrol allotments… The Neighbourhood Policing Team now have a gate key to both North and South sides so that they can access the allotments at any time. Hopefully their occasional presence will act as a deterrent to any undesirables. VANDALISM... another report (21 June) of damage to a greenhouse and frames on plot 96 N/Side. It has been reported to the police.
May 31. We are getting reports of theft and damage to plants especially in polytunnels. The last event a couple of weeks ago was reported to the police. It is important to log these incidents as they happen to make the Police aware otherwise it will be claimed that we do not have a problem. Click here to email the local University/Eaton Police Team. Summer Show 2010Results of the 2010 SUMMER SHOW coming soon. The show is an opportunity to see what other people have been growing, and to try and win a few prizes. The schedule, which details the competition classes and your entry form is here, which you can fill in and email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or hand in at The Hut. The display will be open to the public from 2pm to 3pm; prize giving is at 2:45pm. Exhibitors may stage their entries between 10am and 12 noon, we will have paper plate and vases for you in the hall, but you may use your own if you wish. You must leave the hall by 12 noon so that judging can start in good time. There are no entry charges but we will award some small prizes, and the following trophies will be awarded: the Frank Failes Cup will go to the person winning most points (3 for 1st prize, 2 for 2nd prize, and 1 for 3rd prize) in all classes, the Jarvis Cup will be awarded for the most points in the following classes. The Rose Bowl is for Best in Show. The George Davidson Shield will be awarded at the Secretary’s discretion: the Armstrong Cup will go to the best exhibit in class 1 and the Cicely Haines Cup is for the most enthusiastic newcomer on an allotment. No-one will be awarded more than one cup. The Bluebell Display is not a serious event, and everyone is welcome to come along and give it a go. Click here to see last years entries.
