Gardeners are digging their new allotments Print E-mail

Gardeners in Harleston have been setting out their beds at the town's new allotments.
All 30 plots have been snapped up since the town council started allocating them six weeks ago and there is already a waiting list.

“After such a small time it is interesting to see the different ways each person has of organising their own allotments,” said town councillor Ian Broughton.

The idea of reinstating allotments in the town was brought up by members of Harleston Gardening Club at a town council meeting last year.

The town council then set about finding some suitable land and found a plot off Mendham Lane.

“The next project for the town council’s Allotments Committee is to arrange a communal water supply,” said Mr Broughton.

“It is early days at the moment and I am sure all will go well over the next months and years.”
