Arsonists wreck allotment scheme shed Print E-mail

A co-operative which helps people in the city to grow their own organic vegetables has had a shed burned down by arsonists.

The scheme at the Bluebell South allotments, on the corner of The Avenues and Colman Road, encourages people to learn about and grow their own vegetables.

But after four days of back-breaking clearing and digging they made a startling discovery - it really was a bomb site.

TOWN council plans to sell off two allotment sites in Swaffham led to one of the biggest ever turnouts at a public meeting in the town this week.
More than 200 people packed into the Assembly Rooms on Monday for a meeting about the loss of public open space called by the newly-formed Swaffham Community Allotment and Leisure Gardeners' Association (SCALGA).

Allotment waiting lists are being re-opened today after a ninth-month closure.

Brighton and Hove City Council experienced such a huge surge in demand for plots that they stopped accepting new applications.
