SCOTLAND'S first organic allotment site has won a prestigious national award.

The Bridgend Allotments, opened last summer in Edinburgh, have been named the best in the country by UKTV's Gardens Growing For Victories series. Judges included a star of TV's Blue Peter.

AS the campaign against the council's sale of Woodford Green car parks gathers momentum, allotment users believe they could be the next victims.

Plot holders at Chigwell Road are alarmed that the sale of their site has been identified as a way of helping raise the £150 million that Redbridge Council needs for a series of big developments in the east of the borough.
